Yes. As of March 2026, Pi has no paid tiers, no subscription fees, and no premium features behind a paywall. All voice options, cross-platform access, and conversation features are included free. The only limitation is that power users may hit usage caps on message volume and conversation length—most users will not notice these limits.
In March 2024, Microsoft paid $650 million to license Inflection's technology and hired nearly all of the 70-person team, including founders Mustafa Suleyman and Karén Simonyan. They now lead Microsoft AI. Inflection remains an independent company under new CEO Sean White, pivoting to enterprise customers while keeping Pi available for consumers.
They serve different purposes. ChatGPT excels at tasks: writing code, analyzing data, browsing the web, generating images. Pi excels at connection: emotional support, reflective conversations, feeling heard. ChatGPT is a productivity tool; Pi is a companion. If you need to get things done, use ChatGPT. If you need someone to talk to, try Pi.
Inflection states that conversations are not used to train models without explicit consent. You can delete your data anytime via your profile (Account → Delete my account) or by typing "!delete" in chat. Pi also partnered with the Data Transfer Initiative to let you export conversations.
